Diddley and Squat Inspiration

I am so excited my first three books of the Diddley and Squat series have been published and are off to a great start. I hope those who have read any of the three have felt as much  joy reading them, as I felt joy while writing them. I am thrilled the next three books of the series will be out later this spring of 2022. As I celebrate the series, I thought I would share with you the inspiration behind the stories.

All of the animals in the book are inspired by my love of animals  I have shared experiences with while raising my own children. Most of them are beloved pets, but Diddley and Squat are inspired by animals I experienced in their natural habitat and was moved by them.  Both were exactly as described.  They were dejected by their own, yet they displayed resiliency and determination that melted my heart for each of them.  It was only fitting, then, to bring them together and build a series meant to inspire each of us to reach for personal growth and hope, while experiencing life to the fullest joy possible.

Each story takes on a perspective from one of the animals, while surrounded by a family that is imperfectly perfect and full of love for each other (inspired by my family) and the animals.  The first two books were about Diddley and Squat and their journey into the family fold, with the rest of the books highlighting lessons from the perspective of another one of the animals.  It is amazing, when we pay attention, how much we can learn from those that can’t even speak.  Animals have a way of leading us into and through many things that, if we are willing, can open our hearts and minds in ways nothing else can.

If you are an animal lover, you probably already know, but if not I challenge you, even if just from a distance, to observe animals in nature and see what lessons you find yourself!  You will feel your heart grow and your mind stretch, as you recognize the beauty they provide in living within purpose.

Sincerely,

Robin Lynn

Robin Lynn, author of Where the Ocean Meets the Sun, is a loving wife and a proud mom of 5 children. She is also an international trainer in counseling and education, as a nationally certified school counselor, and a licensed professional counselor.  She has a background as both a general education teacher and a special education teacher with a specialty in autism.  She was teacher of the year three times, district teacher of the year, and a regional teacher of the year finalist.  Robin does work in the states and oversees, using her experience and expertise to empower others who try to overcome obstacles.

Robin devotes her time to faith and family , as she believes it is her primary calling.  She loves her dogs as if they are human, as well as all creatures.. minus snakes and spiders, which cause near death experiences if seen!  She loves playing board and card games, family meals, and laughing for hours with friends over a good meal of Mexican food!  Robin loves learning and is an avid reader, but finds writing is her way to process and explore her deepest thoughts and experiences.  And one of her favorite hobbies is photography, as she loves capturing the beauty of people and nature in their most authentic expression.

Robin, beyond her experiences with children and families in typical experiences, is a veteran in the field of trauma from both a personal and professional standpoint. She combines those perspectives to create simple, yet empowering awareness for families. Robin, having experienced the deep pain of the death of her youngest son, as well as walking her mom and dad through their unexpected deaths, knows suffering.  Having also raised a combination of biological and adopted children, her perspective concerning how a child’s trauma affects the entire family finds balance by her field of expertise, where she has made it a career to grow and support others.

Robin has bridged the unique experiences of her personal and professional life to develop applicable, tangible strategies for support. She has experienced the beauty and the pain that life can impose when working to overcome the harshness of trauma. She has found one of the greatest avenues of survival is bringing others into awareness of how they can support a family experiencing crisis.

Her children’s books are meant to provide joy and fun, paired with an underlying message of hope and character growth.  Her other books are desired to be resources for those, like her, who are walking through personal struggle and need a pathway to hope!
